FAQs
Access Athletics SCV is a non-profit organization founded in 2023 by West Ranch High School student, Berkeley R. Nunez. Our organization aims to lower the financial obstacles faced by many young student-athletes or prospective student-athletes in the Santa Clarita Valley by offsetting the costs of participation fees required (or recommended) by many Santa Clarita Valley schools or by providing financial support to help pay for uniforms and equipment--which oftentimes serves as a barrier to participation. We also host athletic clinics in various sports to promote physical fitness and to improve the mental health of young students throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.
It is well documented that young people face many modern pressures which adversely affect their physical and mental well-being. It is also well known that participation in athletics provides an environment for improved physical and mental health. Unfortunately, participation in athletics often comes at a financial cost, one which many families are unable to meet. Your gift will help provide much needed assistance to those students who would not otherwise have the means to participate or whose participation would cause their family financial strain.
Yes. Access Athletics SCV is a 501(c)(3) organization, and your donation is deductible under IRS regulations. A tax-compliant donation receipt will be provided for every donation made. You are encouraged to consult your tax advisor for specific information regarding the tax deductibility of your donation.
For 2024 and 2025, 100% of all donations will go toward programs. The organization support staff and leadership team are all volunteers who believe in the mission and have a desire to support the community.
You can support our organization by donating new or gently used sports gear and equipment or by volunteering your time at various athletic events and clinics. Additionally, we would highly welcome you spreading the word to friends, family, organizations, or anyone else who may be interested in supporting young athletes in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Young athletes (7 th -12 th grade) from families who meet financial need criteria will be eligible to receive assistance. More specifically, any student from a family who falls below the FPL for 2024 will automatically be eligible to receive assistance. Additionally, even if a family is above the FPL, a student will be eligible for assistance by demonstrating how participation in an athletic program will cause financial hardship for the family.
A student athlete can receive assistance one-time per school year. Families who have more than one student are eligible for assistance for each student.
Fees related to school athletic programs (i.e. participation fees, uniform fees, transportation fees, etc.) will be paid directly to the school on behalf of the student-athlete.
Unlike school athletic participation fees which will be paid directly to the school, if an eligible student-athlete request support in the form of equipment and/or gear, such items will be purchased by Access Athletics SCV and it will either be mailed to the home address of the student-athlete, or arrangements will be made with the student-athlete for pick-up. As for gear, so long as the gear is a requirement or necessity for the sport (bats, rackets, gloves, footwear, athletic garments, etc.), it will be considered.
Families can apply for assistance by completing the application form on our website or by contacting us directly for more information. A parent or legal guardian of a student-athlete or prospective student-athlete must sign each application submitted to be eligible.
Applicants will be notified of their award and approval status via email or telephone.
Awards will be issued on an ongoing revolving basis so long as the Organization has monies to award.
Our Board of Directors has approved an internal policy to maintain all applications and personal information in the strictest of confidence and which will prohibit the discussion of any application outside company meetings which will be called periodically for determination of awards. No information will be shared with third parties and all applications will be destroyed following the annual award cycle.
